Marg vs Tally vs BUSY for FMCG distributors

The short answer:

  • TallyPrime if accounting and your accountant matter most and distribution happens somewhere else.
  • BUSY if you want a low-cost package whose FMCG page lists schemes, beat plans, van management and free WhatsApp.
  • Marg ERP 9+ if you want salesman and retailer apps from the same vendor and a local partner to support you.

All three are Windows desktop software. Every fact below links to the vendor's own page, checked on 9 October 2026. We make Distiqo AI, a cloud alternative, and say where it fits at the end.

“None found” means we didn't find it on the vendor's own pages on 9 October 2026, not that it can't be done with a partner's help. Check the linked page before you decide; tell us at info@distiqoai.com if something has changed.

2. How to choose

  • Count where the hours go. If most of the day is accounts and GST, Tally's depth matters most. If it's orders, beats, vans and collections, look at what each one does for distribution out of the box, not through add-ons.
  • Price the whole setup, not the licence. Add salesman apps, cloud access, WhatsApp messages and yearly renewals for your number of users and salesmen.
  • Ask who supports you. Marg and Tally are sold through partners; ask who will visit when something breaks.
  • Check the phone. All three are desktop software. If you want to run the business away from the office PC, check exactly what each mobile app or cloud option covers.

3. Where Distiqo AI fits

Distiqo AI's Distribution OS is a different kind of tool: one cloud system for the whole distribution business, used on a phone or a computer, with nothing to add on.

  • Orders: Orders from the counter or office, from salesmen, on WhatsApp (text or a photo, Hindi-English mixed included) and from shops on the retailer network, all in one queue. WhatsApp orders are read and drafted for someone to approve.
  • Stock and purchases: Stock by godown with batch and expiry, earliest-expiry-first billing, a visual godown map, stock counts, damages, reorder planning, and purchase bills read from PDF or Excel.
  • Field and dispatch: Beats with automatic beat generation, van loading, trips with drivers, delivery stops with returns and cash collected at the door, and Delhivery courier shipping.
  • Money: Overdue accounts ranked, WhatsApp reminders drafted for approval, promise-to-pay, credit limits and stop-supply, bank reconciliation. Full accounts: ledgers, trial balance, P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, TDS, depreciation, loans, and a desk for your CA.
  • GST: E-invoices and e-way bills through a GSP with your NIC login; GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filed from the system with your OTP; GSTR-2A/2B matched to purchases automatically.
  • Schemes and claims: SKU discounts, buy X get Y, quantity slabs, order-value and cashback schemes, targets and incentives, and claims to brands with evidence packs.
  • Reports: Ask Distiqo AI questions in plain language, a Command Center, 60+ reports with Excel export, and a report builder that turns a sentence into a report.

Moving in from Marg, Tally, BUSY or anything else is through Excel or PDF: Export your items, customers, suppliers and books from your current software to Excel or PDF and upload them. Tally, Marg and BUSY exports are recognised automatically. Your old software can keep running alongside. What it doesn't do yet: Distiqo AI needs internet (no offline mode); there's no live two-way sync with accounting software, no voice-note orders, no GPS tracking of salesmen, and no cash-on-delivery courier shipments. It's in private beta and not security-certified yet.

4. Questions

Which is better for an FMCG distributor: Marg, Tally or BUSY?

It depends on where your day goes. Tally is the strongest on accounting and is what most accountants use, but salesman ordering, beats and vans need partner add-ons. BUSY's FMCG page lists schemes, beat plans, van management, free WhatsApp integration and payment reminders, at a low subscription price. Marg offers its own salesman (eOrder) and retailer (eRetail) apps and a large partner network. All three are Windows desktop software.

Marg vs Tally: what's the difference for a distributor?

Tally is accounting-first: strong books, GST and inventory, with no salesman or retailer app of its own. Marg is a billing and inventory ERP with its own paid salesman and retailer apps, edition-gated features such as schemes and multi-godown, and partner-led sales and support.

Is there one system that does both distribution and accounts, on the phone?

Distiqo AI's Distribution OS is one cloud system for the whole distribution business: orders from the counter, salesmen, WhatsApp and shops on its retailer network; billing, e-invoices and GST returns filed from the system; godowns with batch and expiry; beats, van loading, delivery and Delhivery shipping; collections and full accounts; schemes, brand claims and 60+ reports. It runs in a phone browser, is in private beta, and you move your data in from Excel or PDF.
